Welcome to U-Heal!
OUR GOAL: We are in the process of developing a project to help domestic violence victims and their pets. Our goal is do developed a foster care/kennel space network to temporarily house the pets of domestic violence victims, as they seek out a new and safer life. Studies have shown that many such victims will not leave an abusive situation for fear of the consequences for pets left behind. We will be helping them improve their lives, and protecting the animals from further abuse as well.
We have ideas to develop other projects in the future as well including helping people in retirement/assisted living communities keep pets they might otherwise have trouble caring for, by assisting with transportation to vet appointments, grooming, and shopping for supplies, as well as defraying the costs for elderly persons on a fixed income. Yet another involves matching dogs with military veterans suffering from PTSD. Unlike dogs that assist with physical disabilities, a dog would not necessarily require extensive (and expensive) training to effectively assist a vet with PTSD, making it more feasible to match the vets with shelter dogs that desperately need a home.
THE DIRECTORS: Among the directors, we have a finance BS and practicing attorney as well as an MBA/JD, who possess ample skill and knowledge to run this non-profit effectively.
